New Moon – IBM Print Ad – 1950s
New Moon – IBM Print Ad from National Geographic Magazine circa late 1950s.
The Vanguard Project was the US response to the Soviet’s Sputnik. The USSR was able to put two functioning satellites into low earth orbit before the US launched it’s first successful Explorer 1 satellite in 1958. Vanguard 1 was successfully placed in low earth orbit on March 17, 1958. IBM’s 704 Computer was introduced in 1954 and was regarded as the only existing computer that could handle complex math at the time.

Welcome to Vostok6! This is the very first post and an intriguing photo to boot. This was taken in 1977 and is likely Montreal, Quebec. Please leave a comment if you know where this is. Note that the St. George Cross Canadian flag is flying, which is a rare sight these days.
